Step Sequencer Lauflicht
A Step Sequencer is an intuitive, fast and fun possibility of editing a song. It is especially for live purposes and beat creation an excellent tool.
The "Lauflicht Sequencer" is a moving light, multitrack and multitimbral step sequencer. You can either begin to create a new pattern on scratch or even load the notes of a given pattern into the sequencer automatically. For every track of the song there are 16 steps which represent the notes of the given pattern completely or a selected part of it.
You can insert a note of an instrument into the appropriate track by clicking on a step - clicking on a step twice will remove the note again. It is possible to configurate the record with velocity, length, delay. etc. and even a chord mode (up to three notes) is implemented.
The insertion position of the note depends on the editstep and page you chose. The editstep represents a kind of resolution of the 16 steps, that means, which row of the pattern is affected when clicking on a step. Currently there are editsteps n=1,2 and 4. Each step in the sequencer represents the n-th note of the pattern determined by the editstep. E.g. editstep 4 means: Step1 represents the first note of the track, Step2 the fifth, Step3 the nineth and so on (Step16 the 4*15=60th row). Editstep 2 means: Step1 represents the first note, Step2 the third, Step3 the fifth and so on (Step16 the 2*15=30th note). Editstep 1 covers the first 16 rows of th pattern. With the page parameter you can switch to the next 16 rows of the pattern. E.g. editstep 1 and page 2 covers the 16 notes between the 16th and 32th row of the pattern.
In playmode, a moving light indicates which step is currently playing. It is possible to edit the pattern while playing, you can even change the pattern and the new pattern is loaded into the sequencer automatically.
Update v1.21:
- midi control: All steps of each track and the parameter Editstep and Page can be controlled via midi hardware. Just open MidiMapping in Renoise to assign. It should be extra fun to control the sequencer with your Hardware e.g. Monome, Ohm64 or similar.
- multisample (samplebank) support
- instant instrument change: when selecting another instrument for a track, the notes in the pattern of the appropriate track are changed to the new instrument
Update v1.5: (2.7+ only):
- adjustable step length: 8,16 or 32 steps can be set in the added preferences dialog. There you can set the number of steps and the settings will be saved automatically.
- rewritten lauflicht: updating of the lights has much better performance now
Update v1.51/v1.52:
- the correct Base-note of a multisample instrument and its name should be shown
- improved the pattern loading: the values (note, name, etc.) of the first occurence of an instrument/sample of a track in the pattern is always loaded into the stepsequencer, regardless if its position is visible in the resolution (Editstep)
- highlighted every 4th step in the progress bar
- Please have a look into the forum thread for details
Please note this tool is in working progress and there are some features planned. For more information, the latest (beta) version, feedback, bugreports, ideas etc. please use this topic on the forum.

New Launchpad Edition
With the Lauflicht Step Sequencer Launchpad Edition, you have complete control of the whole pattern with your Launchpad, regardless of the pattern length and step size you have chosen. You can page through the pattern easily with the left/right and "user2" buttons, change the resolution modes, and scroll through the tracks with the up and down buttons. It just turns your Launchpad a great Hardware Step Sequencer.

Awesome Job
Can you please make it so each step of each instrument you can set velocity and panning? Kind of like FL's step sequencing? But better because its in renoise.
Thanks. Can you please post
Thanks. Can you please post this suggestion in the forum thread and tell me in detail what should and how can it be done? Then I can decide if it is possible.

Hear, Hear!
!!
great work indeed!
Thanks for this great tool!
Thanks for this great tool! If I might be so impolite to do a feature request : can you make all the buttons midi-controllable ? In combination with Duplex this could be very powerful! If you can point out how I could do that myself I'll be more than willing to give it a shot. Thanks again!
Thank you. :) A new beta
Thank you. :)
A new beta version was just released which should make all the buttons and the editstep/page preferences midi controllable. Please have a look at the related topic in the forum here: http://www.renoise.com/board/index.php?showtopic=26552&view=findpost&p=2...
It would be nice if you can test it and post in the forum thread.
Awesome
Really slick easy to use interface.
